Welcome!
The Norwegian Wind Ensemble engages curators as artistic directors for our specific focus areas. Peter Whelan will be our curator of early music – from the Renaissance to Viennese classicism. He will promote a continuity in the artistic process that will begin from the moment an idea is presented, to the performances, and even in evaluating the projects for further development.
When we performed a series of concerts earlier this year I instantly felt at home and excited about the musical possibilities. I am looking forward to breaking new ground and sharing our music with audiences at home in Halden, in the region of Østfold, and on tour.
Peter Whelan was our top candidate for our curator position for Renaissance, baroque, and early classical repertoire. We felt an immediate connection after working together in September. Whelan is a leading interpreter of early music, an acclaimed solo artist with an award-winning discography as a solo bassoonist, and he leads the orchestra from the harpsichord. As a wind ensemble devoted to early music, what more can you ask for?
